Nemanthias dispar (Herre, 1955)

海中の百花繚乱
Flowers Blooming in the Sea

体長約10cm。インド洋及び西太平洋の岩礁やサンゴ礁域の浅瀬に生息します。群れで行動し、比較的穏やかな性格です。

ピンクや黄色のグラデーションの美しい体色がキンギョハナダイとよく似ています。ハナゴイもハナダイもどちらもハタ科のハナダイ亜科に属しますが、流線型の体形がハナゴイ、体高があるものがハナダイと大まかに分けられています。

サンゴ礁ではお互いが入り混じって泳ぐ姿が見られます。まるで花びらが乱舞しているような見事な光景です。

They are approximately 10cm long and live in shallow waters around rocky and coral reefs in the Indian Ocean and Western Pacific. They live in schools and have a relatively calm personality.

Their beautiful gradations of pink and yellow make them very similar to Sea goldie (Pseudanthias squamipinnis). Both fishes belong to the Anthinae subfamily of the Grouper family, but they are roughly divided into Peach fairy basslet with a streamlined body shape and Sea goldie with a taller body.

They can be seen swimming together on coral reefs, creating a stunning sight that resembles a flurry of fluttering flower petals.
